The process of quenching the katana is a critical step in the sword-making journey. The trimmed blank is heated to a specific temperature and then rapidly cooled by submerging it in water. This step is crucial for increasing the hardness and strength of the blade. Depending on the materials used, various quenching methods may be employed, such as overall quenching or local quenching (where the edge is covered with a special clay mixture). The clay mixture, a closely guarded secret, helps to differentiate the hardness of the edge and the back of the blade, resulting in a cutting edge that is tough enough to slice through thick materials, while the back remains flexible enough to absorb impact.

The grinding of the katana involves a meticulous series of steps, from coarse grinding to fine grinding, to achieve the desired smoothness, straightness, and aesthetic appeal. The blade's surface can then be polished to a mirror-like finish, with the forged or heat-treated lines, known as "hamon," adding an exquisite visual element.

The tsuba (guard), fuchi (sleeve), and habaki (blade collar) of the sword are crafted from brass, while the tsuka (handle) is made of wood tightly wrapped in genuine ray skin and white ito. The full tang of the sword is secured by two mekugi (pegs), allowing the blade to be disassembled from the handle if needed.

The core of the blade is made from clay-tempered T10 steel, forged and polished repeatedly using traditional techniques, with the steel being folded over 10 times to enhance flexibility and hardness. The saya (scabbard) is crafted from lightweight wood and coated in lacquer, requiring great care when drawing and sheathing the blade.
